I would never order something that is backordered. I would order it online, and wait forever there, because waiting is expected there. Though they do take your money first, luckily you didn't have to do that.

Waiting defeats the purpose of going to a brick and mortar store.
And I am quite certain it is illegal for an online retailer to charge you for something on back order. They can only charge when the item ships. I will have my legal counsel look up the actual wording of the law later today. |

When I preorder video games and movies on Amazon they never charge my card until the stuff is ready to ship. |

Yeah I remember reading about it a long while ago. I'll see if the legal beagles will have time to look up the law for me today.
It's the same with minimum charges on CC/Debit cards. That is illegal as well. Retailers can lose their CC processing rights from this practice. |

i don't know about backordered items, but i do know that it is standard online retailer process to only charge items when the item actually ships. one reason is to prevent price mistakes from being legally binding. once a customer is charged, retailer is accepting a contract to fulfill that order. so even if amazon lists 55" led lcds for $2, they are not on the hook for them until they charge the customer.

Yes, look up the law please. I am curious. But there is a difference between an online retailer such as Amazon, as there are no "special orders" there, versus a different store that has items that are not routinely stocked and would be considered special orders, or custom built for you, in which a deposit is customary. Most companies that ship things like this require deposits, and some are partial or full. I'm sure that would not be illegal, as a ton of larger companies do this. When I ordered an Akrapovic exhaust from PU and it was not routinely stocked, they wanted a deposit from me even though it would take 2 months to get. Are they breaking the law? Nigga please.
And dude, give me a break on the credit card thing. It's simple wording. This is bad: "We charge an extra 3% if you use a credit card" This is good: "All prices listed or given are cash discount prices, if not using cash you may not be eligible for the cash discount price" Easy. |

I still can't stand the ridiculous offers on bikes I have here with the follow up of "cash". How often are dead babies or stock certificates accepted as payment for a bike? So dumb.

They will probably just sell it a few months later anyways. Or custom make 8 inch bar ends because $20 is too much to buy them. Hypothetically.
