Bars charge covers all the time. I've been to Northside bars that charge a cover on a regular Friday or Saturday night and then charge $5 for a shitty domestic beer just for the "priveledge" of drinking on the stupid Northside. So you guys can suck it and stay up north then .

Charging is normal but the reason that you've convinced yourself for the charge is pathetic. Keep people off the streets? Yeah because the bar owners are so concerned for the patrons safety when they leave their bar. Those fucks are just trying to make another dime off of you and hopefully keeping you at their dump longer just because you gave them money to get in.

It was actually due to pressure from the whiney people in the neighborhood to try to keep the drunks in the bars and not on the street roaming from bar to bar.
