So, i've been working on my resume. Anyone have any tips for me?

Is it bad to have your resume larger than 1 page? I just have so much stuff I need to include that I can't fit it all on one page.

I'm in IT and i've done alot of project work. Is it ok to include high profile projects? and in what detail?

No trolling please, let's keep this thread clean.

keep it short and only put your highest profile projects in. YOu can talk about the rest during your interview.

These days its hard to keep a 1 page resume especially if you have a long work history. Bullet points are your friend. If you have a recruiter, they should be able to help you out with your resume and tailor it for the position you are interviewing for. They will most likely put points relevent to the position you are applying for up top such as previous projects worked on that relate to the position you are applying for, skill set, etc. The rest will follow after that.

unless you're a ceo type, more then 1 page resumes will often get tossed into the trash without even looking at your name. keep it one page at all costs.

use lots of dollar values on the projects you worked on.

never embellish. more then likely you'll get nailed on it in an interview.

if you're looking to make a move within the same industry, emphasize work done in that industry yet maintain a hook into other positions. usually small highlights suffice.

try to fill in time gaps between jobs. red flags are usually raised if you have a least 6 month hiatus in between positions.

slap down your gpa if it is over 3.2. otherwise, leave it off. after a few years in the workplace, no one looks at gpa anywho.

sure. I don't really know what to look for in an I.T candidate but when we're looking for a project manager, we are looking for experience and that one big project that brings value to our organization.

I don't know about you guys but my last resume was a page and a half long and I still got the job. Which is why you bullet point/summarize all the relevent shit up top. Keeps them from having to go through the whole resume if they don't want to.

Are you a freelancer/contractor, who has worked for many different corps over the years? If so, then I would have one consolidated resume, and one expanded resume. I submit the former and personally present the latter during interviews, if appropriate.

One thing I've keyed in on, is to not only write what you've done, but what you've accomplished for your employer. For example, for myself, I'd highlight how I overhauled my company's processing capabilities, increasing throughput by 500%... blah, blah, blah.

That's some good info guys. I'm going to be working on my resume when I get home tonight. I've already started to bulletpoint any and everything from my current job into a word document. I need to get home tonight and iron them out and put what is important onto my resume.

I still have 1 irrelevant position from years ago on my resume that I could blow out.

This new resume is gonna kick ass!

depends really on the person shifting thru the resumes. generally, if you're submitting to a position attracting an assload of resumes one of the first things the hr person does is whack anything out of the ordinary. 1+ pages usually is the easiest thing to dump.

you're a developer. there's a much lower overhead in resume applications. plus, there are always keywords which you need to get on there to catch prospective employer's eyes. my current resume is about 1.5 pages too in 9pt and 10pt text...

Are you going through a recruiter or are you applying directly to the company yourself? How did you find this job? If you have a recruiter, they should be able to help you out writing your resume.

job boards are your friend.

post online resumes and you probably will get 3rd party recruiters calling/emailing you since you have work experience.

if you're applying directly, it's important to keep your initial resume to 1 page.

I'm hoping to cut out alot of the fat tonight so that I can fit my current position in. I'm hoping it will be 1 page exactly.
