VW's have weird issues. Last winter my trunk decided not to close anymore and I had to get the latch replaced and then right before Xmas I was driving home from shopping and all of a sudden my trunk popped open while on 90 and more than half my presents flew out onto the highway. I was so pissed cause I only got 1 of the presents back. I had the trunk latch replaced at least 5 times last winter. I had to have all the rear seatbelts replaced because they were locked and wouldn't release. Low coolant light kept coming on when I had coolant. Now it's all the big stuff breaking on it though.

If yiou plan on selling this here i would delete this post. hahhaaha

Yep, when does it gonna end? I just wanted to ditch it while I could drive it do the dealership under it's own power . If it needs to be towed in it is too late .

Just like me, I didn't feel right selling the car to any person other than a dealer taking the time and money to fix that heap of junk up .

Hahaha. I was told after a few visits that a lot of Passat owners were having the same issue.

Do you work on VW's though? And do you do side jobs? I HATE my dealership and hate giving them money but my car needs a bunch of work to it. I prefer to pay a friend for doing it instead of the dealership. I know for sure the back brake pads need to be replaced, and most likely the rotors too. Also there is a loud creaking sound when I go over bumps or make a sharp turn.

My VW has like $40k left on the loan and it's probably only worth about $10k at this point. No one will buy this stupid car.

Audi's and VW's are the same for the most part. Your Passat is almost identical to an Audi A4. No need to do side work, I own the shop.

Creak = control arms.

brake pads = brake sensor. Look at the little box in the middle of the gauge cluster, that'll tell you everything.

Rotors = why do they need to be replaced? Are they warped? One way to check is to go 40-60mph and slowly apply the e-brake. vibrates/shakes = warped rotors. If they're just noisy it's due to the weather (mines doing the same thing).

As for doing the actual work, can't say enough about Brian. Good guy all around and awesome prices, plus he uses OEM parts.

Check KBB to see what your car is worth for private, trade in and whatever else they have.

Go to Carmax first and see what they will give you. If they price is good to you sell it to them. If you don't like what they offer just post it up on Craigslist for what you want and see what happens.

usually ebrakes are tiny drum style brakes contained INSIDE the rotor of the rear brake assy so this will not tell you if your rear brakes are warped.

There aren't sensors for the pads in the rear on her car. (or yours)

I was thinking the same thing about the control arms, but it's hard enough diagnosing cars over the phone, much less the interwebz.

I was going to wait to talk to her before getting in to all that. I would rather see the car so I can give people accurate information instead of all the things it could be. And Muffs, that's not a dig at you, I know you are practically an Audi apprentice tech after the A6.
