Funny thing is, I did the best on the '96 GSXR750, '99 R6, and '95 ZX6R. All the GSXR600s I had really kinda sucked.

The GSX-R 750 of that time era was leaps and bounds above it's competition. It was so far ahead that it competed with 900cc bikes instead of 700cc bikes because it KILLED IT'S COMPETITION OFF

They released it just before Daytona in March, and I got mine just in time and did what I could to get it ready. Well Suzuki had a tech out there to check the piston to valve clearances because they supposedly were too tight, and mine was. They had head gaskets that were thicker to allow the correct P to V clearance and hooked me up with one. That night I rolled my bike into the hotel room, dropped the engine, took it apart, rebuilt it in the room on the kitchen table, and got her ready for the next day. That room was disgusting after we got done and then we switched rooms the next day after complaining how dirty it was.

Totally hilarious.
I have about a hundred stories from racing. I still can't believe I'm not dead or in jail forever for some of the stuff we did.

ChiefBD wrote:Wow, there was no love for the R1, what is wrong with that bike Mao and Erz? Mao will probably tell you that its the heat emanating from the exhausts. That didn't really bother me. The R1 was a pig. It was wide, it was heavy, and it was hard to get it to turn because it was so big. it was hard getting used to the Daytona because it was so narrow and light. I had to get used to not having to turn in so early with it.
Also, the R1 would hesitate when you pulled the throttle then it would shoot you into outer space. Probably more of a tuning issue but that bike had a known issue with the throttle bogging below 3k rpm. It was fun when you were on the highway cuz it fucking pulls like crazy but that's all its really good for. At least IMO. The guy who has it now is a CCS racer and he is making it his race bike so I'm curious to see how he sets it up and how he does with it. I'm sure he could ride the shit out of it though. The heat is what got to me. Handling wise, it wasn't too bad. Definitely not a 600 by any means but of course it was a liter bike. Low end torque was definitely lagging but the top end was nucking futz! All in all a great bike. I'm a slow rider so the handling was more than adequate for me. Riding position was very aggressive as well. It just wasn't the correct bike for me.
