fresh jalepenos are always a surprise. some are about as hot as a bland bell pepper and some will linger through you till your body expels it.

a decent way to tell is if the jalepeno has those white/yellowish stripes running the length of the pepper on the outside skin then it's probably real hot

The seeds and the white stuff attached to the seeds is what makes Jalapenos hot. If you scoop that part out, jalapenos taste almost like bell peppers.
