Do you guys do it regularly? I've had a coach reprimand me because I mentioned that I continued to brake even after corner entry.

Do you guys do all of your braking before turn in?

I do the bulk of my braking before turn in, I turn in, then I slowly ease of the brakes til I hit apex, then gradually start adding gas right at that point

I got a lot of shit last year from this coach at summit point and he literally said, "who do you think you are, valentino rossi?" I was just asking him a question about scrubbing off speed mid corner than anything.

is it bad habit to do this?

it's a style thing and can upset your suspension if not done correctly.

I have always been told it's a skill to work yourself up to later in your career to add to the toolbox of a already fast rider.

just what I have heard anyway.

just be careful. bad things could happen if you trail brake too hard. that's probably what that cr was referring to. phuck em tho, if you're comfortable with it do it.

trail braking is a very useful skill that can be learned fairly easily although it isn't always the best way to go thru a corner but can sometimes prove invaluable.

That coach is an uninformed idiot. All of the top GP riders trail brake, they wouldn't be able to pull their times if they didn't.

The reason you want to trail brake even if you aren't up to speed is that as you know it's dangerous to stab at the brakes, it causes the forks to bottom out and you go go flying. When you already have a small amount of pressure on the brakes it is much MUCH safer to increase pressure. If you find yourself about to ass pack some guy mid-corner you have a far greater chance of stopping safely if you are already trail braking than if you weren't.

oh, this was a while back, my memory was sparked when Paik was talking about condescending coaches

well, it was with STT, back in July of 07 at Summit point.......he was a balding guy riding an SV650 (which is just about every CR out there lol).....he had a pretty high pitched voice, and I think he coached for Team Pro Motion too

(I might add that he was also taking jabs at the fact that I was on an R1)

Also preloads the suspension for the cornering weight bearing on the forks.

Yeah, STT didn't like trail braking last year. I remember them telling me to set up my entry speed before I enter... pffft, lame! but safe.

In the intermediate skills enhancement day, they focused on trail braking. Go figure.

If you are gonna ass pack someone mid-corner you change your line not stop....but you still use trail-braking.

I'm referring to situations where a line change might not be possible.
