Wanted to say thanks for the referral information. Just dumped AT&T & T-Mobile for myself and the girlfriend over the weekend with the above info. Both of us are switching to an EPRP shared plan with a pair of Palm Pre's.

I'm still on my Treo 755p. I won't be getting a Pre until they cut my Sprint Employee line.

What would you like to know?

So far, I've gained full access to my Pre, and implemented a few custom hacks (SFTP access, SSH access, and battery %). I've also implemented Homebrew Apps, and am starting to research WebOS to do some stuff myself. Helps that I have a Linux background.

Go hit up Monoprice.com if you want to get additional MicroUSB cables... they also sell USB AC and car charger adapters, all super fucking cheap.

what kind of hacks are you talking about? script hacks or just opening ports for sftp and ssh?

i had 2 of those. i had a regular star tac and a star tac elite. i also had the super fat batteries for extended talk times. those things used to be chick magnets but chicks have become tech savvy and no longer think those phones are cool

Thus far, I've mostly just implemented existing hacks, such as tethering, SSH with Dynamic DNS. My buddy Chris is writing his own homebrew app to interface with Eve Online. This morning, I started researching the browser further, first to simply alter the default font values, but am now digging further to see what else I can modify.

I think my contract is almost up and I'm looking at this phone to replace my BB. Do you know if the Palm Pre is compatible with 802.1x w/TTLS and PAP inner authentication? That is the security that my school uses so I need to know if I can access wireless. Also, can I get the Pre and not have a data plan? I don't feel like shelling out the $$$ for a data plan especially when there is wireless everywhere around my school. Also, will all of the phone's features (Email, IM, etc) work with wireless internet only?

I do agree, I don't like that you can't just plug in the Iphone and use it as an actual storage device without itunes. I also don't like how you can't use an actual song you already have as a ringtone unless you buy it as a ringtone. I have been using the iPhone for about 3 weeks or so now and the only app I use is the iFitness app to keep track of what I do etc..so I don't need to bring a notebook and pen while I workout. It is a nice phone, but I don't think it is a phone I would want to have long term.

I'm waiting for my contract to be up so I can try the new touch phone from T-Mobile and hoping they came out with a newer BB than the 8900.

use www.myxer.com they have an iphone option, and you can upload anything you want.
