The difference, is when it is in gear with clutch pulled in you are spinning the entire clutch basket and getting decent drag from the clutch plates. In neutral you are just spinning the trans and no clutch basket. Much easier. Just try it in a parking lot, once in neutral and once in gear with clutch pulled in. You guys know phones, I know bikes.

Especially when cold. I think the oil being thicker when cold makes the clutch plates stick worse. My dirtbikes won't even kick start when cold if they're in gear with the clutch pulled in.

I push start in first to get the engine spinning as fast as possible.

Yep, if you just bypass all that clutch stuff there is much less drag. But all this is assuming you have a properly attached battery cable, otherwise you need to push REAL fast.

higher gear makes it easier to turn the motor over with less lockup of rearwheel

If your ass is in the seat the wheel is probably not going to lock up unless you're push starting it in the rain or on a dirt road.

I ride a Gixxer with battery cables connected. I don't need to push start.

I fixed the loose cable around noon, but the battery was just about completely drained with all the start attempts. I tried bump starting it after that and it was a no go, even with a push. So I got a jump from a minivan and it has been running fine every since.

That first time I fired it up, I did it with the loose cable . So, as CP said, I had to go bionic man to get it working. probably got the bike to about 12mph that time.

Fuck Fuck Fuck, Mao, are you sure Ducs belong in the crusher, cause I think Gixxers may have taken that spot. This fucker is acting up again. Will not start, I even tried to jump it from the Civic, no go . I think it may be the battery, all the connectors are good. This battery was purchased Oct 2007, I am shocked it went bad in just 2 years if this is the case. I kept it on a battery tender any extended periods and when I didn't have an engine .

It's payed off and I hate loans, so that isn't going to happen . The CC extended warranty and service contract kept me paying on this fucker for a long time, many lessons learned I have. I will replace every damn part on this bike and ride it till it literally snaps in two .

I should do that and give them a receipt of the 2 ebay engines I have installed since then as proof I did not violate the warranty . The funny thing is my warranty is still good till July 2010 .

It looks like it. But if battery keeps dying, his stator or rectifier may need to be replaced. I had to replace Skee'z's stator as it kept eating up his battery.
