Folks, I really love watching motorcross dudes fly over jumps and bumps on Speed. I have been thinking about dirtbiking for a while, but I am afraid of breaking bones all over the place. I don't want to do X games double back flips
, but I would like to learn how to do double jumps, whoops, etc without PAIN. How can I do this without living in a hospital for a long time?

motocross safe?
Ron, you can do it safely. It's all in your head and your perspective that it's dangerous. |

You can have a lot of fun with it being safe. I still almost crap my pants when I feel both tires off the ground.
I really do not think I have had my bike out of second gear and really enjoy myself. Maybe Bobby will have all of us over to ride and you can borrow my bike anytime. |

Buy a dirtbike and start tearing it up. That's what I did. Started MX riding a couple years ago at age 40. I am the same way, not wanting to be laid up again with broken bones, but you can go at your own pace. Skills will come in time, and you can push your abilities at your own comfortable pace. Nothing in life that is much fun isn't without risk, so just be smart and set your bike up properly, get all the safety gear, and ride within your means to minimize your injuries. Weight training and being physically fit also helps when you crash.

Learn to ride on the trails and whatnot. Stay away from the mx tracks for a while.

Well, I guess that was a bit misleading.
Make those nicely groomed trails over completely flat ground.
But seriously, whatever you're the most comfortable with to start out. That will take a little trial and error, and be sure to just pack it up if you feel like you're in over your head. Bottom line is, buy one, buy some gear, give it a shot. |

Like Jack said, try out trail riding first on some easy trails. I like riding on nasty, challenging singletrack trails, stuff mountain goats would fall off of and if I never go on an MX track again that would be fine with me.

I don't think you're going to be bustin' out nak-naks anytime soon. Just make sure you can roll everything and there are no doubles with gaps. No biggie. Trails are cool too. Try both and see what you dig. |

One word of advice: if you want to get more air, give it more gas on the take offs, nak-naks and supermans happen naturally.
