Can't wait for the Taste of Chicago? You don't have to.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, the City of Chicago is throwing a Taste Preview that, for the first time, will be open to the public.

Daley Plaza (Washington and Dearborn Streets) will be turned into a mini-Taste site, featuring six food booths serving the same dishes that will be featured June 26 to July 5 in Grant Park.

Among the goodies will be gator sausage on a stick, Spanish-style steak, Indian samosas and barbecued beef brisket sandwiches.

Items will cost between $2 (for small Taste portions) to $5.

Unlike the real Taste of Chicago, in which visitors purchase tickets to exchange for food, Wednesday's preview will be cash only.

The Eli Story, one of the many bands that will play at Taste of Chicago later this month, will perform at the Daley Plaza preview at noon.

The gumbo and alligator sausage was quite tasty. After that I had no patience to wait in lines. They weren't ready for the crowd that showed.

It was jambalaya, not gumbo... and the gator on a stick was awesome. So were the Samosas. I actually left shortly after you did... didn't feel like waiting in another line either.

Nothing like waiting in long lines for fly-covered food on a stick that you eat while 1000s of sweaty people pass by and rub their arm fat on your food. The Taste of Chicago blows. They need to charge admission to keep all the bums and dirtbags out like Milwaukee does with Summerfest.
