darren, i'll be there for saturday. there's a small possibility that i stay for sunday too, but i doubt i can handle two in a row

And, if I can handle two days, you can. ;) 2nd days are easy, it's the 6-7th session of the same day that is hard.

which route do you take, how early do you leave and when do you usually make it to putnam?

Well, I can't say I've ever had consistency with any of those.

Route: I usually take 65 south to IN-43, and take that straight south for the last 60 miles or so. It's a state route, but fairly quick and avoids Indy traffic.

When to leave: As early as possible, the day before. My worst case was leaving at 1am, getting in at 5am and riding the first day on two hours of sleep in my car. Not advised. There's no camping at the track. Many people stay at the Cloverdale RV park. Others at any nearby hotel. I'm hoping to get out by 5 today, be there by 11 local time.

When do I get there: Track opens at 7am Saturday morning. There will be a line of people waiting for the gate to open, so they can set up, register, and go through tech on time. NOTE THIS IS ON EASTERN TIME. Chicagoans are notoriously late to registration and tech because of this.

so if i leave at 3am i should be there before 7 with est change included?

No, 3+5+1 would be 9am, though at that time you should be able to do it in under 4h.
