from your knowledge of cf, is it correct that cf has 150x more tensile strength then aluminum? i'm considering getting cf bars for mah clipons
note: i do not like the grips i got from glenn so i went with your recommendation for the renthal diamond medium compound grips. sorry glenn... you can have your grips back. |

Brian,
Just remember that carbon is only stronger for it's given weight. Carbon reinforced composites for the most part don't flex very well. It's very brittle. Aluminum bends Long long time ago, I had carbon bars on my Honda RS250. I had a minor lowside during a heat race. The bike looked perfect except for bent clutch lever and some rash on the bodywork. In about lap 10 of the race, I was braking hard into turn 5 at RA and I flew over the front of the bike and fucked myself up. I thought the font brake locked up on me but what happend was that the minor lowside put some stress factures in the left bar that wasn't visible and with the added stress of braking hard lap after lap, it just snapped. The moral of the story....aluminum is good.

so even tho cf has higher tensile strength once stressed it's f00fed?
i am not considering this to lose weight per se. there's a dude i know who makes cf parts and is "asking" for volunteers. says he's had cf bars for years with no problems. but i know once cf breaks it's done so that's why i asked you. thanks
