I bought a 250 off CL, but when I looked at the title I saw that it has a lien. The seller says that he paid off the loan but they didn't send him any paperwork. Due to my own inexperience, I didn't notice the LIEN print on the title until the bike was at my house.
So the situation right now, is that:
I am in possession of the bike
I did NOT pay the seller yet
Seller retained the title (which is fully filled out and signed by both of us)
H esays that he needs to get a Letter of Satisfaction from the finance company. Once he gets that faxed to him, I will also call the bank to confirm.
I am wondering if this will be enough for the DMV in order to register it and indemnify me from any further claims by the finance company?

This sounds like trouble waiting to happen. I would ask the DMV.

I don't think you can register a car that already has a lein holder on it. The title has to be released and reissused and then you can register and add a lein holder of your own if you're financing.
