This question comes out a lot. This is 2WC's stance on this.

We would like people to think before they post. If we allowed users to delete their own threads when things don't go their way, this would deny others to put in their 2 cents while not facilitating any ownership.

If threads were somewhat more permanent, maybe just maybe users will think for a second before they start a thread.

Freedom comes with a price. That price is responsibility.

So before you post something, think for a second. Believe in what you post. Stand your ground. If you have a valid point, I and the mods will have your back.

If you screwed up and are being ridiculed by your peers. Take it like a man and learn.

On the flipside, this is the people's forum. So if someone has some valid reasons for the converse, I'm all ears. The Chairman is benevolent in so many ways.

I'm not into politics, and i debate with my fists. I'm more referring to threads that i create, like that 'hahahhha' and the 'zOMG' thread so i don't get caught up.

It pertains to those types of threads as well. If you are going to post, "Maoisn sucks!" or "I hate my GF!" stand by your ground. You are entitled to your opinion but other people are as well. If you realized later on that you f'd up, take it like a man. Own up to it and learn from it.

On the flipside, people can post stuff like, So and so is an asshole. Then shit doesn't go their way and they delete it. No lesson learned, no ownership whatsoever. Don't like it walk away and do it again another day.

Own up to what you post. In Sparta even in king's messenger is responsible for the words that come out of his mouth. If you fucked up, admit to it. A simple I'm sorry. Lesson learned will do.

I should not be denied the oppotunity of self-censorship including deleting a thread for any reason I see fit. I also think this rule is a direct contridiction to this site's mission statement.

i don't see the contradiction. the statement says: We will never censure your opinions about anyone, place or thing.

yet you want to be able to have the power to censure every reply by other users in a thread that you created. so i see it as taking the censure power from mao/mods to the users and that goes against this part of the mission statement.

You assume a lot. You are ASSUMING that the only reason a user would want to delete a thread is to censor others. And don't tell me it is just an example because this is the same argument, and the only argument, you have been using since I first sent in a PM to the admin (mao) who then directed me to Mao (that's some serious bullshit right there).

I am not asking to be allowed to delete individual posts within a thread. That would be the power of censure.

first off, i am NOT mao. so whatever you think is bullshit is/was created by a lie someone told you or you created it yourself.

i disagree that i'm assuming anything about the user's intent. in fact, i believe my point of view does not have any direct correlation to a user's intent nor that it even matters. by giving the topic starter the ability to delete the entire thread, that user will be deleting any post made by other users of that topic regardless of those other users' desires. that is censuring. so by having the power to delete the entire thread, you are do the same as deleting individual posts by other users. you're just doing to all of them in a post.

my argument assumes there are replies to the topic starting post.
