I'm going to try race tires this year, but I didn't have a set of tire warmers (I don't want to put them through too many heat cycles)
Does anyone have a set I can borrow for a weekend? It won't be for this weekend, but sometime mid July or August. I'll throw in a lunch if you'd be game to loan a set to me =) Thanks. |

why do you need tire warmers with race tires especially in july/august? Do 1 easy lap followed up by mid paced 2nd lap and you're good to go.

I don't want to put all these heat cycles on the tires as I want to use them for street riding when I'm done with the track day. rubber gets harder after several heat cycles and I'm thinking tire warmers will help with this........just keep them hot the whole day |

If you are planning on keeping race tires to run on the street, don't waste your money. Just go with Diablo III's or Pilot Powers. You'll heat cycle the shit out of a race tire after a few highway rides anyway and if they aren't worn down to the wear bars by the end of the track day, you just wasted all that money for nothing.

I want to keep the tires soft for the weekend and thus I am only concerned with the heat cycles during that weekend. After I'm finished with that track day, I'm just going to ride around the street on those tires until they wear out. I'm not concerned at all with heat cycles and how hard they get while on the street because I won't be riding that hard anyways......just putting around in my shorts and shades for the ladies =)

Depending on your pace.. the good part of the tires is used up in the first hard session. |

A modern race tire should go down to the wear bars before you heat cycle them to death... unless you are running a B pace and are trying to get 3 weekends out of them.

That all depends on your pace but I would be more worried about how much tire is left after 2 full trackdays than the tire heat cycling out. Where are you going and what kind of times do you do? R1 right? This message was edited 1 time. Last update was at 06/20/2008 03:06:01 PM |

R1 right?yeah R1, I'd say I keep up a pretty descent pace (yeah, I know doesn't really tell you much) I'm probably mid to lower pack most days in the A group. I'd say when I'm running these new tires, I'll be running between 85-90% of my own capacity. |
