no worries, i didn't crash.

actually, i didn't even go. this morning @ 6:45, i started up the bike and rode to the shell station to meet up with chief. he rolled in, gassed up, and was all set to hit the road. i went to start my bike and...nada. the headlights worked, but there was nothing but silence when i hit the starter switch. we tried for 15 minutes to get the thing going, but no luck.

now before anyone goes off and start ripping on ducs, let me just say that nothing like this has ever, ever, EVER happened in the 6+ years i've owned that bike. i couldn't believe it, especially since it started and ran perfectly ten minutes before. with the clock ticking, i told chief to go on ahead to starks and i'd keep trying the bike. if worse came to worse, i'd push it the four blocks back to my garage.

i called my brother and woke his ass up. he had me pull the sides off and check around the battery, but again, no luck. thankfully, dimitris lives around the corner and he came over immediately. he sat on the bike, turned the key, hit the switch, and bang, it started right up on the first try. "no fucking way," i thought. by this time, it was a little after 8am. i prolly could've made it to starks if i hauled ass, but first i wanted to figure out what happened to cause that problem. i didn't want the same thing to occur out in the middle of nowhere. plus, the failure to start gave me a bad feeling. i always listen to my gut instinct *and* my bike. for whatever reason, this particular trip wasn't meant to be for me.

on a positive note, the day turned out to be quite pleasant. i made a beeline for MCC immediately after leaving the gas station. dave looked at it and within 30 seconds found the problem: the connector wire to the starter had come loose behind the bracket. he snapped it back in and all was right with the world. hooray for no costly repairs! MCC was having their triumph demo days, so while i was there, i test drove a tiger (in the pouring rain, i might add).

after that, i rode up to my parents' house where my brother was kind enough to wash my bike. earmuffs and ron can stop giving me shit now. the duc is spotless again. deciding it was too nice to head back to the city just yet, i hit up my favorite stash of nw cook/se mchenry county twisties.

i returned to the city in the late afternoon and stopped by cobra lounge for their bike/car show. it was winding down when i got there, but i did get to see some funny burnouts...including one by a guy on a rebel with ape-hangers.

and now its 3am and i just realized i've been up for almost 23 hours. stick a fork in me, i'm done.

atleats it was something easy and didnt cost ya anything. Nice job to MCC for not charging you to even look at it.
