Trapped drunk driver opens another beer as awaits rescue

(Reuters) - A drunk driver trapped after overturning his car cracked open another can of beer while he waited for emergency crews to rescue him, a New Zealand court was told.

Paul Nigel Sneddon, 47, pleaded guilty to careless driving and drunken driving after being nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit in a district court in the city of Palmerston North, the Dominion Post newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Police found Sneddon, a former baker, trapped in his overturned Ford Laser on June 1, drinking a can of beer after he failed to take a corner properly and crashed through a wooden barrier, flipping his vehicle.

Defense lawyer Peter Young said that when Sneddon found he could not open the doors, "he had nothing else to do at that point, so he had another beer."

When asked by police how much he had consumed, Sneddon replied: "Plenty, I've been drinking for four days straight."

Sneddon, who is estranged from his wife, told the Wellington- based newspaper that he went on a drinking binge after losing his job at a bakery on the same day that he heard his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Judge Gregory Ross fined him NZ$1,100 (US$780) and disqualified him from driving for 10 months. It was his first offence.

Woman urinates on car, passes out in front of police station

It was an easy DUI arrest for police last week when a man parked on a curb outside the police station and his female passenger urinated on the vehicle before passing out in the grass with her pants down.

Jacob Hesenflow, 35, of the 1300 block of Moluf Street in DeKalb was charged with DUI after off-duty officers saw a vehicle pull into the police department complex at 10 Civic Center Ave. in Montgomery about 11:45 p.m. on June 22, according to a release from police.

Toni Yahnke, 49, of the 500 block of Kingsway Drive in Aurora, allegedly got out of the vehicle and began urinating on the vehicle, the release said. She then fell down in the grassy area and was found by officers laying in the grass with her pants down.

Hesenflow appeared to be intoxicated and was charged with DUI and ticketed for improper parking, the release said. Yahnke was charged with disorderly conduct.

Incident Began In Women's Room At High School Reunion

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire)

A man was charged with DUI after driving to a police station to bail out a friend who allegedly urinated in a women's restroom sink during a high school reunion party in Lincolnshire.

The incident happened Saturday night at a restaurant in the 200 block of Village Green, where the Stevenson High class of 1990 held its 20th reunion. A female customer came out of the bathroom and told an employee there was a man inside, walking around with his underwear around his ankles, police said.

An employee went into the bathroom and allegedly found Rex C. Eaman, an attendee of the reunion, urinating in the sink. Management summoned police, who arrested Eaman, 37, of the 3000 block of North Sheffield Avenue in Chicago, and charged him with disorderly conduct.

As they removed him from the restaurant, another reunion attendee asked officers what he would need to do to bail his friend out. Officers explained the process, but left the man with a warning: They believed he was drunk, so he would need to find a ride to the station.

But Steven M. Anti drove to police headquarters at 3:15 a.m. Sunday to bail Eaman out, according to police reports. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.

Anti, 38, of the 5700 block of North Northcott Avenue in Chicago, has a July 23 court date in Waukegan. Eaman will appear July 19 in Mundelein.
