Preckwinkle wants to raise Cook County taxes on tobacco, beer, cars

Once again, they just find a way to balance the budget on the back of the taxpayer.

To be fair Preckwinkle did make a lot of cuts in her budget including layoffs and getting rid of the Stroger tax. She couldn't get the damn unions to forgo their pay raises though. Damn unions.

At this point it's a numbers game. We are so fucked. I'm afraid to buy another house as properties taxes are insane and will only go higher.

Buying most real estate in Cook County these days is suicide. This place is fucked.

your only choices to get away from the city are to move southwest or northwest. choose wisely.

If you are in Cook county, then yes. They made a lot of cuts but I can't see them balancing their budget without increasing taxes. Despite lower property values, people in Cook county are paying more property taxes.

Cook county property taxes are still lower the Lake county. Sales tax is another issue. If you buy something big like a car from a dealer, they still tax you Crook county rates.
