Other than the plastics being taken off, what else has been done that might make the 1000 hard to sell? I say keep on trying to sell the 1000. Buying and selling with a mix of cash and a bike is asking for trouble.

Are you talking about the teacher from Maine East in Park Ridge?

Yeah must of been Maine East. Brunette in her late 30s?

I'm not sure if legalizing marijuana is going to increase R&D by the cartels.

I don't think they are just going to sit by while 8 bil of their pie starts going to the US government. Increasing potency isn't really R & D, it's just a change in chemistry easily accomplished in the manufacturing process. They already know how to do it, they could have us all cutting off our arms for another hit if they wanted. I don't know what they would do, but it certainly is a possibility.

Don't farmers get loans from the government to buy seeds, fertilizer, farming equipment, etc? If the farmers are growing weed(even if it is legal) I don't think the government will give them loans. Without the money to buy supplies they can't grow the weed. Also, if there is already a big source of weed in Latin America, what would stop big companies (who already make Tobacco) from buying weed from Latin farmers and processing it into smokable weed?

Transportation costs are one. You make it legal, and everyone will be looking to cut costs. Not sure a small operation would be able to justify the shipping costs. Unless latin grown weed has suoerior qualities, not sure any of it would come from latin america once it were legal. It isn't rock science. Anyone can grow good shit. Or maybe it is. I do not know.

The Chairman wrote:Yeah it depends on demand. Honestly I don't know what demand would be like. Prices are high now as it is taboo. Once it is legalized, prices will come down. I honestly can't say one way or another if making it legal would be more beneficial or not.

Cutting out the transportation costs with locally grown shit would virtually destroy the supply chain from the equator through mexico to the USA.

Where does the weed smoked in europe and asia come from? Is it latin?

The Chairman wrote:If it was legalized and I was say a farmer eeking out a living growing corn. I would say fuck it and grow acres of marijuana. Hell, every person in the country could get in on it, driving the prices down to rock bottom. Ultimately will we see pot sold in packs like cigarettes, produced by giants like Phillip Morris and RJ Reynolds?

What would happen to other commodities like corn, soybeans and wheat? Would there be a food shortage as agriculture is what feeds the world.

Well, here is the thing. It has to be cost effective to grow marijuana. They won't grow it if it costs more than what they are already doing or if the market is not big. If Jrock's numbers are correct, it would take a huge marketing effort similar to what we saw with tobacco targeting kids to make it work. It is not a foodstuff, the agricultural of non foodtuffs is tricky. Like sugar cane in Brazil, the economy has to be tweaked to make it work. The market sounds too small for american big business to get in on it. More likely to be similar to wine, in that it is grown locally. I don't think the cartels will let go easily.

GreatJ wrote:Mexican drug cartels make $8.5 billion from weed and $3.5 billion from coke. They would be a lot less powerful if weed was legal, regulated by the government like alcohol and cheaper.

Competition would devastate the drug cartel. In some countries, the cartels run the government. It would take decades or military strikes and much blood shed and economic depression of latin america to pull off the legalization of marijuana.

If it were to be legal, what are the implications of this now being classified as a commodity like coffee, etc?

The funniest thing about all this is you have the laziest, most socially awkward people on 2WC chiming in about marijuana being good for you You guys are great behind a computer and your Monday morning quarterback skills are off the hook, but you guys go out in public and it's like deer in headlights.
