Be thankful you work on Audis and your shop isn't the closest shop to a shithole trailer park. You should see the shitboxes I get in here.
Luckily it was in here for a no crank that was just a loose battery cable. I do refuse to touch it if it requires me getting in the car. I won't even touch they keys for this car without gloves on for fear of catching the clap. Just because some people can afford to buy an Audi, doesn't mean the are clean people. I have seen some cars that I thought were beyond belief. I had to work on a TT that had cigar butts and ash EVERYWHERE. I couldn't even breath in it, I had to drive with my head out the window. Once bodily fluids are involved, I won't touch it. You never know these days.

stumbl1 wrote:good point probably cost me less in the long run too You can pick up a nice 04-05 for a decent price and spend a season getting used to it. Then add the turbo kit in the off season. The FF 340 kit is so complete. It basically includes everything from the oil pan up.
Plus, it's still street legal.

I don't know of any made in the aftermarket. The real difference is in the reflector design. To have a true HID headlight the entire headlight bucket has to be designed for a discharge bulb. Due to the different arc of the light produced by discharge bulbs vs. filament bulbs the reflector and lens optics are designed differently. Technically, installing an HID bulb in a filament housing is illegal because of the possible problems with focusing the beam and creating increased glare. That is also like saying it is illegal to install an aftermarket exhaust system, but should be considered because a little extra noise isn't so bad, but blinding oncoming traffic could be really dangerous. I would still do it but I would go with an 8000K kit at the most. I'm going to be ordering one but can't decide between the 6000K and the 4300K kit.

The simple answer is the 6K bulb is going to be whiter vs. your standard halogen (about 3500K) which will look more yellow by comparison. The 12k bulbs have more a blue hue when compared to the 6K. If you want to know more read about correlated color temperature, spectral power distribution, color rendering index and luminous flux/lumens. Just keep in mind you will only be putting an HID bulb in a halogen reflector housing so the performance won't be the same as a true HID system.
